After the release of iOS 7, some users are reporting their lightning cables are no longer charging their iPhones, where the phone displays the message “This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone”. It looks like Apple is blocking all non-certified lightning cables, however there is a workaround in the meantime.
The reddit user 3quanimity mentioned in a reddit thread related to the GM of iOS 7 that you can work around the issue by following the procedure listed below:
- Turn on USB power
- Plug in lightning cable to iPhone
- Dismiss any warnings
- Unlock your iPhone.
- Dismiss any remaining warnings.
- Now with the screen turned on.
- Unplug the knock off lightning cable.
- Plug it back in.
- Dismiss warning again
- It should now charge.
